How can I see the status on the backlog view withou using external plugins?

When in the backlog view, I can see the issues assocaited to my current sprint. However it is not possible to see, at glance the status of the issue. The only way to see that status is opening the issue, and that is very time consuming. I am wondering if there is a way I can see the status in the list of issues in that view?

I was looking into the community and found that some one was asking the same question and the answer was to get a plugin. Is that the only way really?

Go to Board > Configure and switch to Card layout section.

Add status to the layout
