How can I setup Jira Road maps on my Jira server(Jira v8.5.2) instance?

Matt Kimball August 23, 2021

I've been looking through a few articles here and non seem to have the answer I'm looking for.

I can't find out how to enable Roadmaps, or even if it is compatible with our version of Jira.

This article says I need a team-managed project

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/create-edit-and-delete-team-managed-projects/

But I don't even have the option to create a team-managed project.

What am I missing?

Thank you for your assistance.

So the first thing to do would be to stop reading the docs for Cloud Jira when you're using Server/DC.  I know it's a bit confusing having two separate products with the same name, it is very easy to land on a doc for the wrong one because of the name and that the docs are in the same place, but we should all be checking the server-version/cloud indicator at the top of the doc every time!

Team-managed projects do not exist in Server, so you're not missing anything.

Advanced Roadmaps for Server is built into Data Center, or, if you had it (under its old name of Portfolio or the more recent Advanced Roadmaps) it should be there, but due to the end of server, new sales of the app have vanished.  You'll need to move to DC to get them.  (Or, move over to Jira Cloud premium)

We have JIRA v8.5.3. How do I know if it is a server instance, cloud, or data center? I am looking for the option to enable road map/advanced road map, but can't either. If it is a server instance, how can we move to DC, and if there is any guide on the pricing, etc? thanks.
