How can I transfer informaiton from a JIRA ticket to confluence?

I want to move the information from JIRA tickets from a project to a confluence page, is that possible? I have a weekly update meeting with upper management in which I would like to present the status of multiple JIRA tickets but I would like to present it in a confluence format.

If you don't mind using an add-on, Elements Publish to Confluence lets you do exactly what you are asking.

Full disclosure: I'm the Product Manager of the app.

With our app you can create Confluence pages from Jira issues. It integrates with Automation, but it has many more features than the native solution. Indeed, you can : 

  • insert any Jira issue data in the Confluence page (and keep the value synchronized between the issue and the page if needed)
  • use any Confluence template you need or design the page yourself
  • automatically link the page to the issue
  • automatically copy attachments from Jira to Confluence

Do the people who would be viewing the information in Confluence have access to view the information in Jira?

Do the people to whom you present the information need to be able to review the information on their own?

Confluence supports Jira Macros that will present information from Jira within a Confluence page, if you establish an Application Link between your Jira and Confluence instances. However, when a user views the page in Confluence they will see only the Jira information that they would be able to see if they were accessing Jira directly.

If upper management does not have licensed access already to see the information in Jira, and if you don't allow anonymous access to the information in Jira, then the Jira Macros in Confluence would not display information for upper management.

An alternative in that case could be to use the Automation for Jira feature to automatically create a Confluence page and explicitly add to it the Jira information you want displayed.

@Trudy ClaspillYes, all have access to Confluence. The Idea is to create tickets in JIRA and presented in a better format in Confluence for upper management. Will Automation for JIRA create a page with multiple JIRA tickets on it? Thanks

Hello @Jehu Pineda 

You would need to explicitly define the content you want in the Confluence page. That would require you to figure out how to populate the page content explicitly. I have not worked out those details myself, but I recall seeing a variety of community posts on the topic of automatically creating a Confluence page from Jira Automation. If you do an internet search for "jira cloud automation create confluence page" some of the results should include post where people are explicitly setting the page content.

if you're open to solutions from the Atlassian, I believe you use case could be solved very nicely with the app that my team is working on, JXL for Jira.

JXL is a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. JXL also supports copy/pasting between JXL and pretty much any other app - including Confluence. So if you want to get some data over from Jira to Confluence, you can simply copy the relevant issues and fields in JXL and paste them over into a Confluence page, like so:

This works for any issue field, including a large number of "smart columns" that aren't natively available (such as, e.g., time in status).
