How can I use automation to add a label to all issues that are moved from a project?

I would like to use automation to add a label such as moved from project A, every time an issue is moved.

For this, I would use Jira Automation to add a rule on the target project (and you can add specific source projects as needed), which essentially has the following basic config:

Trigger: Issue Moved
Action: Edit issue fields (Label)

Hi Steve, the Issue moved only works if the target project is mine. But I want to add a label to issues MOVED from my project.

In that case, you would need to add a rule for every project the tickets could potentially be moved to, specifying your project as the source project - not ideal unfortunately with Jira Automation.

This aside, you would probably have to look at creating a Scriptrunner (plugin) script to achieve this.

Hi @Elise Sounds like you (at least someone who is a Jira Admin) will need to create a global rule, which qualifies the "from project" and has "to any project". Similar to this:

In addition to the suggestions others have provided, I have three questions for you:

1. What problem are you trying to solve by doing this?  Knowing this might help others suggest alternative approaches.
2. What is your Jira type and license level?  Specifically, are you using Jira Cloud or Server/Data Center?  And if using Jira Cloud, are you on the Free, Standard, Premium, etc. level?  Knowing this will help know which, if any, rules-based approaches to suggest.
3. How often are issues moved from your project to others?  Knowing this will help you know what to expect.  That is, for Jira Cloud there are limits on the number of global rule executions each month.  If you move more than 100 issues each month, you could have challenges when the rule exceeds execution limits for global rules.
