How can we add a note or comment to the Advanced Roadmap Plan?

We would like to add a Paragraph type Custom Field to our project and then show on the Plan view. It seems this isn't supported with our Advanced Roadmap. Can you explain how we can show notes/comments for our Plan items in the Plan view? You can see the page I am referring to that it would be very helpful to have small notes / comments on. Screenshot 2022-01-22 at 11.20.57 PM.png

Please find the solution below

Add the Short text Custom field

Hi @Matthew MacLennan _ Bongo BD

Were you able to try out this method?

Hi @Pramodh M I wanted to tell you that although it wasn't perfect, we did make use of your recommendation and are using it. Thanks for the assistance.

I made a feature request for a similar feature here if you'd like to upvote it: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JPOSERVER-4403

Hi @Matthew MacLennan _ Bongo BD

Paragraph custom field is not supported in Advanced Roadmaps.

You can choose the Short text (plain text only) field to show the comments.

Navigate to manage the Custom fields, see which field is supported and unsupported fields

Hi @Pramodh M , thanks for the response. This almost accomplishes what we are looking for, but because it doesn't support having multiple lines, it misses the mark. What is the simplest way to request that the Paragraph custom field type is supported?

My hunch is that there isn't a way for us to make weekly comments/notes when going through our roadmap plan. It would make the plan view much more effective. Without the status updates, we have to go into every single item on our plan to make status updates. It is an okay workflow for engineers, project managers, etc, but when you bring in stakeholders (who already dislike JIRA), it is nice to have a single view to communicate everything.

Hi @Matthew MacLennan _ Bongo BD

There is a way actually!! But it's not with Paragraph We will still have to go with the Single-line text field itself.

You add the single line custom field in Advanced Roadmaps and also add automation to copy the added text to the comment field.

Now, whenever the new text is added in Advanced Roadmaps, you still have the old text already present in the comment field which is not lost and you will have latest added text in the Roadmaps section.

Let me know if you need help in configuring this

Thanks,
Pramodh

When I try to add this custom field, it is not an option. Why would that be? Do I have to configure this first as a custom field in Jira?

That seems to be it. I didn't have that specific field but I used a different short trxt that was available. Perfect for me.
