How do I configure Smart Filter Gadgets?

The smart filter I created doesn't seem to allow for the accessing of smart filters within the smart gauges gadget. Perhaps there is some setup documentation that can be shared with me?

 

My goal is to note when jira epics are on track for a given release, within a week from release, etc. and represent as counts or gauges.
