How do I get the Issue modal on a Jira Server installation?

I tried the Jira Cloud trial and while trying I viewed the issues in the modal. After installing Jira on our server and setting up I cannot figure out how to bring back the modal and I am stuck with viewing issues in the sidebar. Is there a way I can get this feature?

I believe you are talking about the new issue view documented on this link, is it correct?

If that's correct, you can try to follow the instructions in the documentation to activate it, however, I'm not sure if it is available for JIRA Server at this moment. I recommend you to update your JIRA application to the last version available to check if it has been implemented.
