How do I make an issue appear on a scrum board without flagging active sprint?

I have two boards in separate projects.

1 Kanban Board is where I have epics which represent features in Project A.  

The epics have child stories linked to them in Project B which uses a Scrum Board.

I have a query to pull all issues from both projects into the Scrum Board.  However since the Epics aren't flagged for an active sprint, since they could have stories in multiple projects, they aren't appearing in the Scrum Board.  How do you get around this?

Easiest way I have found is to include a label of some sort which identifies the feature A or B the issue is associated with. The label field can have multiple labels if the feature/issue addresses multiple items.
