How do I make "Resolution" optional in the issue "Create" screen.

broberts October 22, 2020

I added the resolution field to my Jira project: "classic software project".

After adding resolution, adding a value for resolution is required to create a new issue. How can I make the resolution field optional in the create issue screen? Thanks.

You do not.

Technically, in the background, Resolution is optional in Jira-speak because you do not have to fill it in.

But when you put it on a create or edit screen, the value defaults and you cannot blank it out.  So it is effectively mandatory as soon as you put it on screen.

You need to remove it from the create and edit screen, otherwise you'll be resolving issues on create, which is usually wrong.

Thank you.

Hi @broberts  - Modify the Field Configuration for the project to remove the Resolution field as being required.
