How do I manage parent status change?

María López Carrasco April 4, 2019

Hello, I can not find where to change to which status the parent issue has to change when all subtasks are completed.

When all subtasks completed we see this message change.png

But when we click on  "Update" the parent issue changes to Rejected instead of Released, and resolution is set to "Won't do" instead of "Done"

Hello @María López Carrasco

This does happen quite commonly to lot of users.

Basically when you see this pop-up and click *update* what Jira will do is to take the parent issue to the *closest* green status from the current status.

In your case this is happening because when you click on update the parent status was on a status that links to a green status called "rejected" and the transition post-function updated teh resultion as well. If the parent issue was on a status that has only transition to *done* green status then the parent issue would have gone to done instead of rejected.

So basically the parent issue takes the smalled possible route to the closest green status.

All statuses in Jira are under 3 category-  grey, yellow and green.

So, is there any way to automatically change the parent status to in progress after setting the child status to the same? I thought abour postfunctions, but no options seems to fit this.

Because I do not want to change the possibility to reject an issue from any previous status.
