How do I monitor how long items take to complete?

Hi, hoping you can all help. 

I want a report that tells me how long an item took to resolve from when we started working on it to when it was resolved. I don't want the clock to start ticking until the item moves into an 'in progress' state. I don't want the report to calculate the time from the 'date created' field, I want it to start when the status is changed to 'in progress' (or an alternative status we have in our workflow). 

This seems like quite a straight forward report that most people would want, I feel like there must be an obvious solution which I can't figure out!

Hi @Marc Taylor,

A good place to start would be the Control Chart. The report is associated with agile boards and is a really powerful instrument to drill into this type of information.
