How do I prevent users creating a board?

I'm about to upgrade from JIRA to JIRA Software. We don't currently use JIRA Agile, but need JIRA Software for source code integration.

Is there a way to prevent users from creating new Scrum and Kanban boards, at least temporarily while we play with the new functions JIRA Software gives us?

I've read that I can take away "Create Shared Objects" permission, but that seems to just stop newly created boards from being visible to anyone else, rather than preventing the ability to create them in the first place. Plus it stops users from creating shared filters.

Do I have any options other than a "please don't touch that button" email?

I guess no direct way to turn it off, no native feature in JIRA Agile/Software.

Information is key so I suggest inform them to stop creating boards for the meantime while you are still evaluating the feature. You can also add a nastygram saying "all boards created will be deleted without notice".

I wish I could see an answer from the Atlassian Team because this is such an important feature and it's still missing!

Hi there, still you are missing that option? It's a little shame to say to my clients please don't touch this button. Do we have a hope Atlassian will add this option?

Hi - I've never seen a way to prevent users creating boards. Since the original post I made we've moved to Jira Software, and have started using the agile functionality in various ways, so the original reason for wanting to prevent it has gone away. A recent upgrade to 8.5 hasn't changed anything as far as aI can see.

I still would like the ability to prevent users from creating boards, as i've seen users creating boards that overlap with existing ones, or where they really aren't appropriate (for example, adding a Scrum board based on a legacy project with 70,000 issues in it, that does not operate in an "agile" way). But fortunately i've not experienced any major disasters by users doing this wort of thing, so the minor annoyances haven't been enough to remind me that I raised this question :)
