How do I separate and show the Backlog items belong to multiple teams in a single project

lalitha February 15, 2019

I am going to have 4 SCRUM teams working off of a common backlog. I have a single project created right now for this and my plan is to use 4 different boards to track the sprint work. I will be using "Component" to distinguish the  issues from each other. My problem is - On the backlog page, how can I show the backlog items of each group clearly distinguishing between the teams?  as a workaround, I thought I would just add "Team1- Issue Name", "Team2- Issue Name" like that to mark the distinction, but visually how can I put themin a different swimlanes ( on the backlog page not on the Active Sprint) or color coded ?

Hi @lalitha

There are quite a few ways to do it, but you can't have swimlanes in the Backlog.

  • Set up a quick filter for each team (e.g. component="Team 1")
  • Show the component on each card. Go to Board settings, then Card layout and you can add up to 3 extra fields to show in the Backlog view
  • Use a different colour for each team, although this is just a thin line on the left of each card. Go to Board settings, then Card colours and use JQL of "component="Team 1"

You can use one or all of these at the same time

Thank you Warren, appreciated. How can I do this if  one team shouldn't have edit/modify access to the items of other team in the common backlog if 1 board with filters used opposed to 4 individual board where each team can have access to that particular board?
