How do I set subtasks to start off in a certain state?

I want subtasks for items to start off in a state called 'TODO'. I want all other items to start off in a state called 'Triage'. I have it setup for all items to start off in 'Triage' right now but I'm not sure how to get the unique workflow for subtasks. How should I set this up?

It would be the same as assigning a workflow to an issue but you would set the workflow up and then assign it to subtask.
