We are currently using JIRA Agile to plan our sprints. We are now looking into JIRA Portfolio. It looks interesting, but I cannot see whether there is any relation between the sprints it schedules and JIRA Agile sprints. We would like to use the scheduling of Portfolio, but have the team look at the JIRA Agile boards as usual. Would this be possible?
Hey there,
you can plan sprints in portfolio - then generate and link the issues out of portfolio if you are satisfied with your breakdown of the tasks and the planning.
so portfolio would be for the planning part and agile for the actual doing.
Plan sprints for a project in Portfolio, generate issues out of this, work with them in agile and use portfolio to avoid bottlenecks if someone drop out suddenly.
But there isn't a real relation like instantlinking between the tasks in portfolio and agile, until you generate the issues and link them with JIRA.
So I would also have to duplicate the sprint planning in Agile after the creation of the issues (if necessary)? It would be nice if you could "export" a sprint from Portfolio to a Agile sprint.

We have a tighter integration there on our roadmap, but please vote for it here as well to have the feature move up the priority stack https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JPO-10 Thanks, Martin Suntinger, PM for JIRA Portfolio
