How easy is migrating from 32bit Jira to 64bit?

Bartek Zukowski February 9, 2012

Hello,

We currently have Jira 4.4.4 and we think about migrating form 32bit version to 64bit. How should we proceed? Could we simply install a fresh 64bit instance and connect it to our old database (used earlier in 32bit instance) and set the same jira.home property?

Regards,

Your idea about simply disconnecting the old 32 bit and pointing a 64 bit installation at the same database is the way I'd do it. I assume attachments are held under jira.home. If you're moving machines, you will need to fiddle with the licenses, but that's about the only real gotcha I know of.

I would take a backup of the database and jira.home first of course.
