You can disable permission "Work on log issues" in Permission scheme, and follow this.

Hi @Barry Williams

You can try automated time tracking offered by Clockwork Free or Pro

This way you can increase the accuracy of time reported by users.

I don't know if it allows hiding the Log Work button though. I have asked the team and I'll let you know when I get an answer.

Cheers,
Jack

@Barry Williams that's an interesting case. Can you tell us more what do you want to achieve? Why don't you want people to add or edit worklogs on their own? What's the rationale behind it?

Speaking of Clockwork you can track time automatically but as we report time on behalf of people they need to have work on issues permissions meaning they will still see Log work menu item and will be able to log on their own.

But knowing more why you need it would help us understand how we can implement that in the product. So please share more details 🙏🏻

Cheers,

That's what I was thinking about, the idea of automating work log is some what different, and its not also a good option since, the status if stays in one status for a long time it would take time according to the timings mentioned in the board / instance.

The one who works on issues must log work on much they have worked, if the field is much needed they can make it required on transition screen.

What are your thoughts on this @Pawel from HeroCoders.

Looking forward to hearing from you !

I totally understand your point. Yes, you can achieve the same with making workload required on the transition (except next-gen which doesn't support that). There are pros and cons of both solutions and you need to figure out which one you prefer.

For us, ease of use and not getting into your way was one of the reasons we decided to implement automatic time tracking. You don't need to think about it in most cases, also we refresh everything instantly on the issue page so you see if you need to tweak anything. Plus we use an algorithm that tries to calculate time spent if the timer was running for more than a day.

Also Clockwork isn't only about automatic time tracking, we are working hard adding features that extend Jira's built in time tracking to offer an all in one solution for advanced time tracking.
