How to add Github App to next-gen project?

Ruslan Nikolaev March 19, 2020

Hey, I have two projects in my Jira Cloud. One is a regular project and I had no problem connecting GitHub to it. However, I also have a next-gen project and for some reason, I  cannot connect GitHub app to it.

This is the app I'm trying to connect

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1219592/github-for-jira?hosting=cloud&tab=overview

Is this not supported in next-gen at all?

Hello @Ruslan Nikolaev ,

Are you using GIThub's cloud deployment, github.com, for your repos, or are you using a Self hosed Enterprise GIT deployment?  And you should be able to set this up using the Github Cloud deployment.

As covered in the this blog to Install the GitHub app to set up the integration:

Using the old GitHub integration?

The legacy ability to connect Jira Software and GitHub via the Jira DVCS connector is now deprecated in favor of this new GitHub-maintained integration. Note: GitHub Enterprise customers who are using the DVCS Connector will be unaffected at this time. Stay tuned for updates on an upcoming Jira Software and GitHub Enterprise integration.

Then with some additional details on this in the in the GIThub master readme file for the new "GitHub for Jira" connector app:

This app officially supports GitHub.com and Jira Cloud. Support for GitHub Enterprise and/or Jira server may be considered in the future.

But I also recomend checking out the following thread where another user ran into the same scenario and noted the additional app for GitHub: Create GitHub Branches from Jira that corrected the issue:

Regards,
Earl
