I want to add a technical task ("configure server") as a card on the rapid board but the Task issue type is not present. I guess I could go and configure issue types myself but technical tasks being such a standard thing I think I'm more probably doing something wrong.
How do I add a technical tasks to a Kanban board?
By default, "technical tasks" are sub-tasks in Jira. You have to first create a standard issue (e.g. User Story) and then create a technical task underneath that as a sub-task.
Epic > User Story > Technical Task
I would suggest just using Tasks at the initial level.
