How to add dropdown with Subtasks to a Story in Backlog and Sprint Backlog view

Agnieszka Santos July 28, 2021

Hi,

We have a scrum board with gradation Epic, Story, Task, Subtask. How can I add in the view of the Backlog and the Sprint Backlog the subtasks as they are displayed in Kanban projects(look at printscreen) as kind of dropdown list? Is it possible that they would be as well estimated and counted in the Total Story Points?  I've managed to add story points option to the subtasks but still they are not counted and displayed in the iteration Backlogs.

If you set up your boards to do "swimlanes by stories", then you'll find the sub-tasks for each story get shown like that, as part of the parent issue of which they are a part

I would strongly recommend removing the story points from the sub-tasks, it's just going to confuse your people.

You do not do sprint estimate on sub-tasks, they're not what you 're committing to doing in a sprint, they are a part of things you are.  Story points on sub-tasks are utterly irrelevant to your velocity, and although there are ways that you could use them, Jira does not have any support for any of the various ways to do it, it simply ignores them (i.e. "pure" scrum)
