How to allow emails with empty bodies to create issues

Dallen Taylor September 23, 2025

I found this page that explains how to make this change: https://support.atlassian.com/jira/kb/how-to-create-service-management-issues-without-an-email-body/ , but the explained instructions do not match up with my environment. See my screenshot below. The instructions: Desired Project > Settings > Request Types > Actions > Edit Fields (for desired request type) mention an Edit Fields button that does not appear in my Actions menu. Does anyone know how I can setup my system to allow for emails with an empty body to create tickets with an empty description?

Hey @Dallen Taylor ,

You will need to edit the Request Type itself, and modify the field requirements there. Under Project Settings, expand the Requests option, then select Service Requests. At the bottom of the list you should find an "Emailed Request" option.

Within this, select the Description field, and un-tick the Required option.

Hope this helps!

Here are some screenshots to help you get to where you need to go.

  1. Navigate to Project Settings
  2. Expand Request Management, then Request Types, and then select "Service requests
  3. Click the name "Emailed request", or more accurately, the request that has the Email Channel badge.
  4. Once within, expand the Description field, and uncheck the Required button if it's enabled.
