How to automatically assign a category to a sub-task based on the parent task

Beth Laverack September 30, 2024

Hello,

I have a project where I'd like subtasks to automatically be assigned the parent tasks category (if there is a category).

However I'm struggling with how to do this in automations as I can't see "Category" as an 'edit issue' option, nor can I see a way to say 'copy from parent'.

Any help much appreciated!

Hi @Beth Laverack

Welcome to atlassian community

Try to use Copy value functionality of Edit Issue in Automation

Edit Issue> Select the Field and

Click on the 3dots and select copy and select the field and issue from which it needs to be copied from.

Hi @Beth Laverack ,

Welcome to community :)

Below is a test rule that i tried and able to see the field

Could you please confirm below details

- Could you please confirm if you are setting up this rule in team or company managed projects

- Could you please also confirm the category field type? Is  it a custom field of single text, ,,multi text etc?

- A screenshot of your rule and the field type ( settings> issues> custom field )would help

Thank you
