How to automatically flush mail queue in jira 4.3.4?

Sometimes our mail queue gets long and needs to be flushed. We'd like to set up something to automate the flushing. Is there an api hook available to do this in 4.3.4? If not, are there any other options available to us? We'd prefer to do this from the client side, but we could do it server-side if we needed to.
