How to change Jira issue icons

Is it possible to change the Jira issue type icon, once a sprint has started or in the backlog?

Ok, I have figured it out.  When you open the item, there is a drop-down field when you click on the icon (at the top) and you can pick either Story, Task or Bug

No, the issue type icons are supposed to be a short at-a-glance representation of the issue's type, not it's status.  They can't (and shouldn't) change on status change, you should be looking for the status indicators for that.

For your query, you will need to have Administration access to change the issue type icon, and as per my understanding the changes are Global (irrespective of sprint)
