How to clear out Asset Custom Control selections via automation

Scenario:  I have a Assets Custom field that lists the Reporters Assets.  Allows for multiple assets to be selected.  I created an automation on Reporter change and the Assets are re-pulled/linked with the new reporter.  Works fine.  

Issue:  When the reporter changes, I want my Assets Custom Control to de-select/wipe out the select assets from the prior Reporter.  Right now it allows additional assets to be added to the end of the 1st reporter on the Assets Custom Control..   There has to be an easy way to clear out the Assets custom Controls selection via automation?

Think of it from the issue view and not the custom control.  All you have to do is set the custom field to 'blank' and that should do it.  Should only take a few seconds for it to clear out.  the control should then populate with the newly selected reporter.
