How to configure next-gen jira so Epic is an available option during task or story creation?

Using next-gen jira, when creating a task or story there is no way to associate an epic with the task or story.  Task/story needs to be created first and only afterwards afterwards an Epic can be assigned.  Is it possible to add the Epic association to the 'create issue' form? I don't see Epic as an available field for 'create issue' configuration.  Thanks!
