How to create a Subtask with a required field?

I have defined a required field for Subtasks but can't now create a Subtask. (I'm a newbie using jira cloud with project admin permissions)

I can only currently create a Subtask from the parent task and it only asks for the Subtask name. It fails without any message - I imagine because the required field is not set - but I can't see any way of setting the required field during Subtask creation as the field is not available to select.

Is there a simple solution I haven't found or any recommended workaround? Any help much appreciated!

Hi Colm and welcome to the Community. If it is failing due to required field then you need to add this filed to the create screen for the sub task. 

Go to project settings > screens > find the one associated with sub-task an click the pencil (edit) then click on the screen name. Make sure the field is on the screen or add.
