Hi Maria,

Setup a screen that maps fields to correspond to your template.(including specifying if an information is required or not).

Add the newly setup screen to the create issue operation of the screen scheme of the project.

If you are not creating the ticket directly from JIRA then do let me know how they are being created so I can advise.

Thank you a lot for your response, what do you mean by setup a screen that maps to correspond to my template?

Hi Maria,

May I ask what you mean by template first?

My understanding is you have a list of items you want to be present in all tickets that are created in your JIRA. - correct me if I misunderstood here.

If so, you would need to:

  1. Create custom fields which would hold each information when the issue is created.
  2. Add the custom field to the screen of the project the issue would be created in.
    1. If you created a new screen for the create issue operation then you would need to add the custom fields from step 1 to this screen.
  3. Associate the screen to specific issue operation.

The above steps is based on my understanding of what you would like to achieve. However as I asked, please clarify what you meant by a template and also how are issues being created in JIRA?

Thanks.

I didn't get how I can create a custom field and then add it to new screen, so I could create issues from this template. Could you provide a link explaining that?

How are you doing "templates"?  What App have you added to Jira to do it?

Maria December 2, 2018

You can do it by customizing the fields or download the plugin

Hi Maria

To be able to assist can you answer the question we have asked you first?

How are you creating said templates?

Without this we have no idea how to help.

Regards.

I created a custom field with checkbox in it. I would like to do an issue type with this customizable checkbox. So when I choose this issue, The checkbox is already there.

I need:

1) understand the dependency between screens - fields - issues.

Do I need to customize fields first, then implement that in the screen, associate the screen with the project? Where is the issue type in this case?

2) add the dates to the sub-tasks in my issue, when I am creating them via fields?

3) or fields are not issued for issues ? And I need to create issues first and then implement them in fields?

You still have not told us what you mean by "template"?

Or do you just mean "a default value for a field when I create an issue"?  Defaults can be set under the field context configuration (admin -> custom fields -> your field -> configure)

understand the dependency between screens - fields - issues.

  • A field is just that a field. It stores data and would appear on any screen it is set to appear on. The field appearance is dependent on the field configuration (specify if required/not required, hide/show e.t.c.)and this can be further restricted based on a field configuration scheme (used to associate field configuration with project/issue types).
  • A screen determines what fields are shown where and when. Read up on Screens(used for placing fields that are to be shown), and screen schemes(used to specify which screen shows up during what operation).
  • Projects are what you associate your various configuration to and they serve as containers for your issues. Meaning an issue would only show fields and screens that have been associated to the project it belongs to. There is no way to directly associate a configuration with an issue.

Do I need to customize fields first, then implement that in the screen, associate the screen with the project? Where is the issue type in this case?

Your understanding of the above is mostly correct.

add the dates to the sub-tasks in my issue, when I am creating them via fields?

  • You cannot create an issue or even sub-task via a field, I would recommend reading the Atlassian documentation here and refer to my earlier comment above.

or fields are not issued for issues ? And I need to create issues first and then implement them in fields?

  • See my reply above with regards project.
