How to display a custom field on the issue page

How do you add a field to an issue page. It shows up on issue create and issue edit but I want it on the main issue page.

All three operation in the screen scheme, "Create", "Edit" and "View" are using the same screen.

 If I select *Add Field* it becomes *Edit Field* and if I enter a value it will show up on the Issue page.

How can I have it show up even if there is no value.

You don't.  Jira hides most empty fields on the issue view screen.

Thanks! That's not intuitive and having it there allows you to quickly edit the value.
