We are utilizing JIRA Cloud and will be migrating off of JIRA and onto FreshDesk. I have 1,000 Projects, tens of thousands of issues and data from the last 9-10 years.
What are our options to extraction methods are available to us? Has anyone navigated this before?
Thank you for any input and guidance!
Hi from Help Desk Migration team!
It’s a pity I didn’t find this question when you needed the answer. As of today, our solution can also export projects from Jira Cloud to any supported help desk, including Freshdesk.
You can easily move all your core records, including comments and attachments, as well as issues, notes, and more. No CSV files involved :)
There’s a free trial available for you to test out the tool and see how your Jira Software to Freshdesk data migration will go.
P.S. I see that Petter referred us as a Freshworks app. We aren’t, however, we are an official Freshworks partner, and you’ll be making the right choice if you trust your data migration to Help Desk Migration.
Hope this helps anyone.
Hi! The best way to migrate from Jira to FreshDesk without losing important data is a 3rd-party app, e.g. Skyvia. Automating this process, you simplify the data export process and ensure error-free data transmission.
Please, find more details about Jira Freshdesk integration here: https://skyvia.com/data-integration/integrate-freshdesk-jira

Hello Jacqy,
Thank you for reaching out.
The best option to migrate your current JIRA data to FreshDesk will really depend if you have any data to be kept in the Freshdesk for where you are moving your data and what import formats Freshdesk supports.
That being said, I can think of the options below:
1 - Use a third-party app to facilitate the process, like the Freshworks App.
2 - Export your JIRA Issues and projects to a CSV file and import it in Freshdesk using the Customer Import Tool
3 - If you have developer resources, you can build an API connection into your Freshdesk account to import ticket data. Freshdesk API Reference would be a good place to start.
Please, take a look at the useful and well-explained article below. It should give you more details about the proposed options:
- Moving Historical Helpdesk Data to Freshdesk Shouldn’t be a Nightmare

Hi Petter,
Thanks for your response. I will need a full extract of my data. Some data will go to FreshDesk, some data may go to DevOps.
1 – is an option for JIRA Service Desk. We use JIRA Software.
2 – does not get us the comments/history, nor attachments that I'm aware of. Please advise how to do this if it is different than just a query download. Not to mention I think there is a limit to 1000 rows, maybe that has been fixed.
3 – looks like my only option. I'm not a developer but may be able to get one. This options seems to have quite a few limitations.
Any other options or Marketplace offerings? If I can get it into my own DB, I can work with the data better. Must include all Attachments!
Thanks,
Jacqy

Hello Jacqy,
Thank you for the information provided.
About the first option, you can easily bulk move your issues to a Service Desk project, although I understand that this would be more work to be performed and you would need to sign-up for the JIRA SD Application.
About the second option I provided (Using CSV), you should be able to export your comments and your attachments (Using a direct link from the directory where they are placed). Also, you can change the parameter to export more than 1000 issues, as explained in this article:
Export More than 1000 Issues to Excel from Issue Navigator in JIRA Cloud
The only thing that you would lose with CSV migration would be the history itself.
If that's still a blocker for you, you still have the REST API option. :)
