How to fetch parent from history via JQL

Parul Rawat August 31, 2023

Hi,

  • Created Bugs as Sub tasks
    • Since Jira was not letting me create a "Bug" ticket inside of a specific user story, I started creating sub tasks and named them as "BUG - <BugTitle>"
  • Found out about Bulk edits and I moved 400+ "Sub-task" type tickets into "Bug" type tickets
    • Without researching, I bulk edited.
    • The change was within the same project thus I thought the parent-child/subtask relationship would not be affected.
  • Bug Tickets under no parent
    • Turns out all of my Bugs are now directly under the project with no parent. I screwed up.
  • Now, I want a way to be able to find the parent tickets from HISTORY of each Bug ticket so that I can save myself a lot of time from doing it manually.

Q. Can someone please suggest what can be done or help me create a JQL?

Hi @Parul Rawat

Welcome to the community

The only fields that are able to show historic from in Jira vai JQL are:

  • Assignee
  • Fix Version
  • Priority
  • Reporter
  • Resolution
  • Status

For the sub-task relation to parent there is no historic information in JQL

There are apps on the marketplace that can export information to BI tooling like powerBI, Tableau etc.

I think they are able to get more history info, as it takes information from the database. You could try an app in trail and see if you are able to get the info

Or you could reach out to Atlassian and see if they are able to get this information for you.
