As we continue to assess our current Accounting processes to ensure we are set up for future growth, one thing that has caused recent challenges is related to employees working from different states. There are payroll tax withholding requirements associated with this remote work and in order to ensure we remain compliant with regulations and future internal policies, we’ve found that it will be necessary to begin tracking the location of the work performed, preferably in JIRA. Some high-level requirements are below that we are trying to work off of:
We use Tempo for time logging and reporting currently which has two partial solutions for this both but both entail limitations. Has anyone found a good way they manage this for their business?
Hi Joshua,
a couple of releases ago we introduced a feature where you can assign a location to a user. You can create as many locations as you like. This way you can both filter on and group by locations in the Tempo reports.

Hi Alexander,
I do know of the feature you are describing and have prototyped it out in our dev instance but believe it fails the second bullet requirement, as instead of the user being in control of putting in their location during the log time action, a tempo admin has to manage the location of the user. This then will lead to users having to reach out to have their location changed in the case they are working away from their typical location. Is my understanding of this feature accurate?
Thanks,
Josh
