We have in our instance a lot of projects which like to create issues by eMail.
Not a problem as such - we set up a postbox and inside of Jira we defined for each project a Mail Server for that postbox and a matching MailHandler.
But now we have a lot of projects asking for that functionality leading to a lot of postboxes, mail server and mail handler. And the effort for managing these is getting out of hand.
What is the best practice for that kind of situation? When you have 50+ projects asking for the possibility to create issues by Mail, but you don't want to define everything 50+ times?
I looked at plugins for that usecase but none of them seem to solve my problem.
I use Enterprise mail handler for Jira. (JEMH) for this.
You can set the profiles in JEHM to look at the recipient address (ie the "to" address) to determine what project to create the ticket in.
I created a single mailbox for jira. (call it "jiramail@domain.com") I originally tried using mail aliases. (ie project1@domain.com). However, we use exchange, and it was "smart" enough to replace the mail alias with the actual account.
So instead i created a distribution group. with jiramail as the only member. This worked fine.
So i have a single mailbox, with 20+ distribution lists all having that mailbox as the only member. The project that he ticket is opened in will depend on what DL the user sends the mail to.
