Hi Community,
We have a requirement to migrate a few Jira projects from an external Jira Server instance (maintained by another company) into our own Jira Cloud site.
However, due to security policies, the external company cannot provide us allow direct data sharing from their instance.
We’ve used both JCMA and CSV import methods in the past, but in this case:
JCMA cannot be used unless fully handled by the source company
CSV import will not preserve comments, attachments, or issue history
What’s the best and most secure approach to migrate the project data in such a restricted setup?
Any suggestions or real-world experiences on how to proceed with minimal access and maximum data preservation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Hi @Sanam Malleswari - did you consider to hire any of the companies that handle Atlassian migrations?
Hi @Carlos Garcia Navarro
Thanks for your reply. I am not thinking to hire any of companies that handle migrations
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
You should go with the JCMA approach to migrate all the data you need. What I would suggest is to check if there can be an NDA in place for the other company to allow JCMA to whitelist the URLS needed for JCMA to work.
This is the best approach I can think of, as this is only one time change and once the migration is complete, they can again restrict the URLs. Either way you need to get someone authorised to access the system and run JCMA.
