Hello Team,
I'am exploring the Dashboards beta and would like to plot Cycle time, lead time , Time in status and i'am not sure what to pick on the x-axis.
What do i pick "Work item completed date", work item creation date, work item resolution, work item resolution date ?
Just an FYI, we are using Jira cloud.
Looking forward to your response
If you would be interested in a mktplace app, you can try out
The "Time in Status" report with Status grouping feature can help to track the cycle time for your issues. Also the app has 20+ reports to meet a variety of use cases.
Disclaimer : I am part of the app team for this add-on
Thanks
As far as I can see, the Home Dashboards do not yet offer a scatter-plot chart. You could eventually try other chart types, such as line or bar, but they will not return issue-level data.
For getting cycle time plotted for your issues, you will still need to use the Jira's Cycle Time report, or maybe Jira dashboards with an app from the Atlassian Marketplace that offers such a gadget. See https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/view-and-understand-the-control-chart/.
If you consider the option of using an plugin, our Great Gadgets app lets you get this done by using its the Control Chart gadget. This gadget can be configured to calculate cycle time, lead time or time between statuses.
The gadget offers also a Data tab with detailed info for each issue, whihc can be easily exported in CSV.
The same app offers also a Histogram Chart gadget, Cycle Time Trend gadget and Time in Status gadget that can be helpful for your needs. See more in these articles:

Hello @Rupendra Vengurlekar
Welcome to the community
That’s a great question.
Jira doesn't provide built-in support for tracking metrics like Cycle Time, Lead Time, or Time in Status out of the box especially not in a visual dashboard context with flexible x-axis configurations.
If you're open to using a third-party app, I’d recommend Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira, developed by our team at OBSS. It’s available for Jira Cloud and offers detailed reporting for:
Time spent in each status or assignee (great for Timepiece -Time in Status for Jira )
Lead Time and Cycle Time (using start and end statuses you define)
Custom calendar support for excluding non-working hours
Trend analysis by grouping metrics per sprint, month, or week
For your dashboard case, Timepiece supports Consolidated Column reports and allows you to select the x-axis based on fields like:
Issue Created Date
Resolution Date
Completed Date (via status-based definitions)
Sprint
You can view these reports in dashboards, export them, or pull the data via REST API.
Let me know if you’d like a walkthrough or example setup!
Hope it helps
Ayça

If you would like a 3D axis graph, you can check out my app. It works best with numeric values, but you can also map fields like priority, issue type, even labels.
You can check out the demo/overview here:

Great to hear you're exploring the new Dashboards beta in Jira Cloud! Let’s break this down based on the metrics you’re aiming to plot — Cycle Time, Lead Time, and Time in Status — and how that relates to choosing the correct x-axis value.
Lead Time typically measures the time from work item creation to work item completion.
Cycle Time measures the time from when work starts (usually indicated by a status such as "In Progress") to its completion.
Time in Status reflects how long a work item remains in each status — useful for identifying bottlenecks.
Here’s how to decide:
Metric | Best X-axis Option | Why |
---|---|---|
Lead Time | Work Item Creation Date |
It marks the beginning of the lead period. |
Cycle Time | Work Item Completed Date or Resolution Date |
Reflects when work was completed, which is ideal for tracking over time. |
Time in Status | Work Item Completed Date or Resolution Date |
Best used to analyze how long an issue takes to be resolved. |
Recommended Default: Use Work Item Completed Date or Resolution Date for most trend charts. This provides a clear time marker for when the work was finished, making it easy to see performance trends (such as Cycle Time or Time in Status) over time.
If you're using the Time in Status app or other custom dashboards, these fields often integrate well with such charts, and choosing “Completed Date” helps you better visualize team velocity or throughput.
By the way, I'm part of the team that developed one of the Time in Status apps. If you're interested in it, you can use the trial version or book a demo session where we'll help you integrate the app into your workflows.
Let me know if you’d like help configuring any specific gadgets or chart types!

Thank you @Iryna Komarnitska_SaaSJet_
Thanks you for clarification. We are already using multiple apps to do the same thing with low app usage and it is costing us a lot. Hence we wanted to test whether the newly released Dashboards beta feature will work for us.
I will try your suggestions.
Thanks

Hello @Iryna Komarnitska_SaaSJet_ ,
While trying to plot Lead time, i selected "Avg lead time" on Y-axis, but i do not see the "Work Item Creation Date". So i selected "work item resolution date " on X-axis but correct.?

Yes, of course. It looks great.
In my first comment, I just wrote down what I thought was best, but of course, we are working from the technical capabilities of the chart.

I would like to know if there is any option to exclude weekends from the calculation or does it exclude weekends by default from all calculations.
Would also like to know if there is any option in Home Dashboards to create our own calendar.
Does it support Percentiles, scatter plot, thresholds.
Also is there any Public Roadmap available which we can track.
Regards,
Rupendra
