How to populate the original estimates value from the Custom field (Story point)?

Ajit Singhal June 12, 2019

As per the organization process, we are estimating the people efforts in the Story points. One story point is 6 hours.

Due to this, there is no value is populated in the Original Estimates field.

Why I need this value:

I am not getting my burndown chart in the correctly, i.e., my project stories are moving into done state on the Sprint Review day. Burndown chart is configured at story level log hours.

The team is logging hours but the Burndown chart is not coming down. There is an option in the Board configuration, i.e., "Remaining Estimate and Time Spent" under the estimation.  But I cannot select this because Original Estimates is not populated.

First, I would recommend avoid mapping story points to hours. The purpose of SP is to decouple from time. Rather, SP are a relative measure of complexity. As a simple example, low complexity might be 5 SP, medium 10, high 20, very high 30.

That aside, if you don’t want to use Original Estimate please check your board settings > estimation to ensure you have SP as the selected option rather than Original Time Estimate.

here is a good article to review - configuring-estimation-and-tracking

I too would strongly recommend not equating story points with hours.  They really are not intended for that.  If you want to use hours for estimates, then don't bother with story points, just use the estimates directly.
