How to reset a resolution to unresolved for existing issues without modifying the existing workflow or transition?

I assume that you want to do this infrequently and for a subset of issues. In this instance you can use the bulk edit option from Issue Navigator to clear the resolution of any issues you select.

Note for those on server version to do this the global permission for bulk editing will need to be set to allow.
