How to restrict access for a single team in a hybrid setup

Abhishek GVS April 3, 2021

Hi,

We have several projects - Classic as well as New Gen.
The New Gen projects are set to Private Access.
Classic projects are open to logged-in jira users.

I wish to create a new team and a separate New Gen project for them in such a way that they are restricted to access only the project created for them.
They should not be able to access the existing Classic projects.

I could use help in how to achieve this.

Thanks in advance,

GVS Abhishek

Hi @Abhishek GVS

You'll need to modify your Classic projects' permission schemes.

Allowing Any logged in user to see a Classic project means there is no limit on their visibility.

Instead, I would consider:

  • Adding a new group via User Management - for example, Global Access
  • Adding all users to this group who should have access to all Classic Projects (exempting the members of the new team)
  • Modifying your Permission Schemes to provide the Browse Projects permission only to users within the Global Access group

You could do it another way - such as control project access via Project Roles - but this is a good method when a majority of users still need to have global project access.

Let me know if you need more specific instructions on how to achieve the above :)

Thank you @Ste Wright

The first approach would be perfect for us (using a Global Access group for Classic)

It would be great if you could point me to specific instructions just so I don't make a mistake. :)

Hi @Ste Wright

Can you please help me with a step-by-step tutorial or a link to such a guide.
