How to set incoming tickets to go another column instead of my backlog

Edmond Dang July 27, 2021

Hi team,

I have a Kanban backlog setup and I am having issues with it. I have a few conditions that I'm trying to incorporate into my board:

  1. I want to have a Kanban backlog
  2. I don't want incoming tickets to go into backlog but rather go into "In Triage"
  3. I want to flip Epic Panels to "on" to keep Epics in backlog and not as a card on the Kanban board

How do I go about achieving all this? I don't want to have to manually triage the tickets from the backlog into the Kanban board. I want it to just show up there and then we can triage through the columns set up. I have sent a few screenshots below to show you how it's currently setup:Screen Shot 2021-07-27 at 11.16.01 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-07-16 at 2.51.28 PM.png

Thanks!

Hi @Edmond Dang -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You could create a simple automation rule to send created issues (which meet your criteria) to that status.  Perhaps something like:

  • trigger: issue created
  • condition: any condition you wish to add... (for example about your need to keep Epics in the backlog, test that the issueType does not equal Epic)
  • action: transition issue to "In Triage"

Please look here for information about automation to get you started:

Best regards,
Bill
