I have a kanban board created from a project but I have not used any project name in the board filter to enable tracking issues from different projects and linking issues under this board to EPics from a different project. I have the following questions by doing this:

1. The kanban board is now not visible under the project I have created in nor in any project. I am only able to search from the standalone boards option.

2. This way can my board track issues from any project (if I do not use project name/id in the board filter)?

3. To modify the workflows for this board and setup new workflows, under which project do I need to make changes?

4. I manage the contents on board through quick filters (controlled by labels) for managing work of different teams. Can I have different workflows setup on the same board based on quick filters. (I did not see any options for doing it anyways).

Hi @rohit_kumar

To answer your queries:

  1. Yes, because you haven't specified a project. A board is a visualisation of a filter - if your search query has no project mentioned, the board has no project to relate to, it just exists as a representation of the filter itself.
  2. Yes, it will track any issue which appears in the filter. So if you're filtering for the issue type "Epic", the board will visualise every Epic in your Jira instance.
  3. Your board's column configuration will need to take into account every possible workflow status in your instance (via Board > Configure > Columns) to ensure no issue is hidden. You can change the workflow of any issue type in any project - as long as you ensure any new statuses are represented in the board's columns.
  4. You can have different workflows setup in the columns and then filter the board into teams based on quick filters.

To be clear on the workflows in columns - issues would still only be able to move to statuses within their workflows - but the board would have to visualise all statuses on it.

So for example, if you have "In Progress" and "Dev Progress" as two different statuses, you might group these both into a column "In Progress" on the board.
