How to stop seeing subtasks in sprint planning when filtering by users using icon filter?

Since we started working with JIRA, while planning our sprint, we could filter the backlog to by users using the little icon in the top. When we did this we only saw the tickets the person is assigned. In the last 2 months this functionality has changed and now when we filter for a particular user we now see subtasks. This is usually when the main task is assigned to another person but their input is needed and a single subtask is assigned to them.

We do not want this as it causes confusion during the planning process. How can I turn off this "feature" so that it looks like it did for a couple of months?

Do you want to never show the subtasks in the backlog, or only not show them when you are filtering by Assignee?

You might want to also post this feedback/question on the article about the enhancement to show subtasks on the backlog. I see that the article author is responding to comments and questions about the functionality.
