How to trigger an automation rule in a project with field change in Epic in different project

Gowri Kumar March 11, 2025

Hi, I have the following issue and looking for help.

My Epics are in 1 project and stories in another project. I need an Automation rule to copy the fixversion from Epic to story whenever the Epic fixversion is updated.

But I do not have permissions to set up Global rules. Is there any other way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

@Gowri Kumar

For this automation to execute, there are two requirements that need to be met.

First

the scope of the automation needs to be multiple project. The scope can be modified in Global administration.

Second

You will need to ensure that fixVersions that are available in Project 1 (Epics) are also available in Project 2 (Story). Automation will not be able to auto create the releases in Project 2

Let me know if you have any question

Hi @Gowri Kumar

Have you discussed this need with your Jira Admin so they can help set up the automation with the scope changes?

Kind regards,
Bill

Of course, that's my next step. I was hoping there was a way to get it done with my existing permissions
