How to turn off in-app notifications

Hello,

Does anyone know how to turn off the in-app notifications in JIRA?  I checked my notification scheme and I turned off notifications for issue changes but these still keep popping up.  Even if I refresh the page it still pops up the notification window each time which is becomming a major annoyance.  

Does anyone know how to turn these off?  I have scriptrunner as well so is there a way to stop it using script listeners?

There is a Suggestion to have this feature added to JIRA at JSWSERVER-12991.

Please vote on the issue and add your use case to the notes for impact.
