How to update Jira issues using CSV Import

Javier Garay G May 7, 2024

Hi folks

I know this has an open discussion topic but it's pretty old and it doesn't help.

I'm trying to update Jira initiatives using the CSV import as administrator, using the tool provided by Settings -> System -> External System import. In my CSV file, I'm providing the Issue Key as well as Summary and the rest of the fields that I need to update, but the system doesn't update the existing initiative but rather than that, it creates a new one.

Can anyone advice on how to do this so I can make it work?

Thanks
Javier

Hi Javier,

To update existing issues using CSV import, you only need the issue key, Summary, and the fields to be updated.

During the import process, please make sure to select the project that the issues are from. For example, if the CSV file has issue key DEV-4 then the you must select the DEV project during the import process. If the project key doesn't match the issue keys, the importer will create new issues.

Thanks,
Hala
