How to update a Jira bug workflow in 1 project wo/ updating other Jira project's bug workflows

I'm new to Jira, and am attempting to modify my projects workflow associated with 'bugs'.  I want to do this without updating/modifying the workflows for other projects in Jira.  What should I look out for or avoid?

You simply need to ensure that the workflow for the one project isnt used in other projects. If it is the create a copy of the workflow, edit it in the inactive workflows and then associate the workflow with the project in question.
