How to use parent in the Issue statistics/ pie chart

Hi

I am trying to show some stats based on parent column. I have created some filters and trying to use on a couple of dashboard gadgets - namely "issue statistics" and "pie chart". I have used my saved filter as the source in the dashboard gadget. But the parent field will not show up as one of the fields. Any idea why?

Parent is not a list-type field, so the pie-chart cannot use it.
