Howto properly anonymize users?
Hi,
we would like to introduce the "new" Anonymization feature that Atlassian built into JIRA.
Version Info: JIRA 8.13.2; Confluence 7.4.5
What we want to achieve?
- Anonymize the user including all personal-data (Firstnam, Lastname, userName)
- keep all related business data / don't destroy anything
The feature itself seems to work well within JIRA.
Problem
We are using CONFLUENCE and Confluence is connected to the JIRA User Directory. We do not use Crowd.
Executing the Anonymization function for a user, that is also used / mentioned / references in Confluence, leads to the following in confluence:
- the User Mentions in Confluence BREAK
- instead of the anonymous replacement userid, there is "UNKNOWN USER (USERID)" displayed
- the USERID is still the original UserId that we intended to replace

Investigation
We have tried everything to change this. No luck. Audit Log of Confluence shows, that the first action that happens in confluence is to delete the former original user from the User Database of Confluence with the explained results.
Result
We can't use the built-in Anonymization feature because it PREVENTS the succesful removal of unwanted personal data (USERID) in Confluence and instead leads to permanently storing this.
Conclusion
It looks like Atlassian has introduced the Anonymization feature with zero respect to connected applications like Confluence although they come from the same company.
Question
Do others have similar experiences and maybe worked around this? Does anyone know a solution? Do BUG reports at Atlassian exist I could not find so far?
