I can see the field "Severity" in project settings->fields, but can't display it anywhere?

I found both the `severity` and `severity rationale` fields on my project's settings->fields list, but that page says those fields aren't set to display anywhere, and there's no screen link to make them visible.

Whenever I go to any configuration or configuration scheme I can't find those fields anywhere to assign.

I've tried going to a bug and clicked on "configure" to see if I could add it there--but no luck.

I must be missing something basic because I'd expect most bugs to have a way to indicate severity separately from priority.

There are two places fields need to be added to be available in your Company Managed Project issues:

- the Field Configuration in the Field Configuration Scheme

- the Screen configuration in Screen Schemes

Are you a Jira administrator? Only a Jira Administrator is able to edit those items.

I am an administrator.  Those fields don't show up on any field configuration, field configuration scheme, screen, or screen scheme.  When I search for the fields they're unfound.  I can only ever see them in the project setting's field list.

Can you provide screen images of what you are seeing?

If you go to Project Settings > Screens, the Screen Scheme should display and list the Screens that are included in the scheme. If you are a Jira Admin (vs. just a project admin) the text showing the screen names will be links.

If you can click through on a screen name link you should end up on a screen where you can edit the fields displayed on that screen.

Is that where you are going where you attempt to search for Severity and not finding it?

Hm, that is a puzzler. Have you tried another browser or clearing the cache of your current browser?

Another way to add a field to a screen is through the Custom Fields interface. If you go to the gear icon in the upper right and select Issues > Custom Fields, then find the field in the list, then click the ... button, you should find an "Associate to Screens" option.

Click that and you get a list of screens. There you can checkmark the screens to which you want to add the field.
