I deleted projects so that I could delete the workflow I created but it still will not let me delete

Bobbi Jo Shortt August 27, 2020

Is there somewhere that a project lives after it has been deleted? I know there is a window that pops up saying it will be permanently erased after 60 days. Do I need to permanently erase it somewhere?

Hi @Bobbi Jo Shortt

There is a method to permanently delete a project straight away:

  1. As a Jira Admin, go to Jira Settings > Projects
  2. On the left-hand menu, select "Trash"
  3. Locate the project in the list and press the 3-dots icon on the right-hand side - then select "Delete permanently"

---------------------

This isn't necessarily the reason you can't remove the Workflow - I would also check the Workflow Scheme

Check the workflow isn't part of any scheme - even if it's inactive:

  1. Go to Jira Settings > Issues > Workflow Schemes (from left-hand menu)
  2. Locate the Workflow Scheme which was in use for your project. Ensure you check both the Active and Inactive lists.
    1. A method of doing this is to go to "Workflows" from the left-hand menu, locate the workflow you wish to delete and see what "Assigned Scheme" is listed
  3.  Delete the inactive Workflow Scheme. This will be possible if the Workflow Scheme is not in use by another project.
  4. Then, try to delete the Workflow.

As noted in (3) - if the Workflow / Workflow Scheme is in use by another, active project - you'd need to remove this relationship prior to deletion.

---------------------

Let us know if either of these allow you to delete the workflow. If not, let us know!
