I have a free tier, with multiple projects, two of which have somehow removed the admin user

v8lust March 18, 2023

I use these instances for demos and have a variety of projects configured for different technologies.

These were migrated from on-premise and everything was going fine, but as I was wiring up the projects to BitBucket (was Bamboo when on-premise), it resulted in two projects having a user as the admin, instead of the actual administrator account.

I now can't access the projects with either user, except for the ability to read the user configuration. When I navigate to Administration as the admin user, I cannot see how to change settings at a project level.

You can try the following options:

Reset the project permissions: As a Jira administrator, you can try to reset the project permissions for the affected projects. This will remove any custom permissions and restore the default project roles and permissions.

To reset the project permissions, go to the project settings page, select "Permissions", and click on "Actions" > "Reset project permissions to default". This will remove any custom permission schemes that were applied to the project, and restore the default permission scheme.

Ask another administrator to grant you access: If there is another Jira administrator in your organization, you can ask them to grant you access to the affected projects. They can do this by going to the project settings page, selecting "Permissions", and adding you to the appropriate project roles.

It's always a good practice to have multiple administrators with access to your Jira Cloud instance, to avoid situations where a single administrator loses access to the projects.
